10U Nationals Updates:

CHAMPIONSHIP GAME against West Garden Grove Sun noon
 
PQ Lighting were in their third game of the day, with temperatures of 110oF.  PQ took the lead in the first when Jordan hit a deep drive to the left field warning track for a double.  Ally hit a single to right to drive her in.  West Grove came back with 3 runs in the second, which could have been worse if the girls hadn’t cut down two girls at home.  Lightning mounted a threat in the 4th, loading the bases with one out, but were unable to push a run across.  West Grove added two runs in the 6th.  Elena slowed them down by tagging the runner going to second, then throwing to first to record the double play, something she executed three times on the day

SEMIFINALS against Simi Valley Sun 10am
 
The game started off as a pitchers duel through the first 3 innings.  In the 4th, Jordan led off, driving a fisrt pitch fastball deep to center to record her third home run of the tournament.  Lightning added 3 runs in the 5th and an insurance run in the 6th to take a 5-0 lead.  Simi mounted a comeback in the 7th, sending nine girls to plate.  With 2 out and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Skylee struck out the final batter to end the game

QUARTERFINALS against PYL Sun 8am
PQ Lightning faced the SoCal state champions in the quarterfinals.  The girls started off quickly, scoring 3 runs in the first with a triple by Haley, and hits by Skylee and Sarah to frive in runs.  PQ added two runs in the second, with Emma and Haley scoring, and single runs in the 3rd and 4th to take a 7-0 lead,  PYL mounted a rally in the 6th, scoring  3 runs.  Skylee came in to shut down the rally,

PQ Lightning led Cerritos after two innings, including an intentional walk of Jordan with the bases loaded. The outfield was up to the challenge as a number of balls were driving to the gaps, but Emma, Sarah and Hanny tracked them down for outs.  Cerritos mounted a rally in the third, but it was snuffed out by another play at the plate.

Navajo jumped out to an early 2-0 lead against PQ Lightning, with two hits in the first inning.  PQ rebounded with 1 in the first, and 5 in the second to jump out to a 6-2 lead.  Haley threw a strong game, holding Navajo scoreless in innings 2-6.  In the 7th, with the temperature at 113, Navajo strung together five hits, moving the tying runner to second base.  The next hitter drove the ball to center field, and Sarah charged and threw home as the runner rounded third.  Jordan caught the ball out in front of the plate and lunged for the tag to end the game!

It's down to the last eight, as PQ Lightning rebounded against Cypress last night. Cypress brought the faster pitcher in the tournament, clocked at 56 MPH, we the tought of shutting us down. The Lightning had 6 hits with 2 walks, with Jordan and Ally getting two each, accounting for 3 runs. Great base running by Hanny secured the fourth run.

Skylee pitched another great game, scattering 5 hits over 7 innings, striking out 12, including 7 of the final 8

Next Game- Saturday 10am against Navajo

The Lightning had a rough outing against SoCal champion PYL, giving up 7 runs in the first two inning on route to an 8-3 loss. The girls played hard, with Leanne surviving a collision at second on an attempted steal, holding on to Jordan's throw to record the out. PQ also recorded a 8-1-2-5 double play, with Sarah throwing to Haley, who relayed to Jordan for the tag at the plate. Jordan then threw to Natalie at third to catch the trailing runner trying to advance,

The game against the Las Cruces Cynergy started a little shaky, with the Cynergy loading the bases in the first inning. The Lightning defense tightened, holding Cynergy to one run in the first. PQ made a quick comeback in the bottom of the first when Jordan hit a two run blast over the left field fence. Ally and Skylee followed with a triple and double, giving PQ a 3-1 lead.

In the fifth inning, Jordan took a 2-2 pitch deep to center, clearing the fence for a solo home run. The Lightning tacked on three more runs in the 6th inning on route to a 7-1 victory. Skylee pitched another strong game, allowing one hit through 6 innings, while stiking out 8.

Next Game- Fri 10am against PYL

PQ Lightning started off bracket play Wednesday evening, beating the Half Moon Bay Waves 8-0. The team had 8 hits , including a triple by Haley and a double Jordan. Jordan also cleared the fences on a long foul ball, nearly hitting a car in the parking lot. Sarah led the team with 2 runs scored, including a straight steal of home. Haley and Skylee combined for a 3-hitter with 10 strikeouts..

Next game Thurs 12:00 against Las Cruces Synergy (NM)

PQ Lightning came out swinging in their second game against Cypress, scoring 7 runs in the first inning on route to a 11-1 game. Jordan, Kiersten and Skylee each had triples, as PQ pounded out 11 hits. Skylee and Haley combined for a two hitter.

Next Game: Wed 6PM against the Half Moon Bay Waves.

The PQ Lightning started off Nationals against the San Jose Quicksukver, who finished second in NorCal States. The Quicksilver jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the second. The Lightning girls fought back with three runs in the bottom of the second, then opened up the game in the fourth inning. Eleven batters came to the plate, as PQ scored seven runs. The Quicksilver mounted a comeback in the seventh inning, scoring three runs and loading the bases. New team addition Skylee James came in to shut them down, striking out the last two batters.
